The Mechanics of Resonance:

Unlocking the Psi Equation

Written by Michael Sound

Introduction: From Mystery to Mechanism

For as long as humans have engaged with the unseen, we’ve asked the same question in different forms:

“Why do some acts of intention succeed, while others fail?”

Magicians, mystics, remote viewers, and dreamers have all felt the variance. Sometimes the symbol sings and the world responds. Other times, the ritual feels empty. The link doesn’t land. The signal is static.

What makes the difference?

In The Octavo, chaos magician and mathematician Peter J. Carroll introduced a radical idea: that the efficacy of a magickal operation could be quantified. He proposed a simple but profound formula:

Ψ = G x L x S x B

Where:

Gnosis (G) is the altered state required to bypass linear thought.

Link (L) is the symbolic connection to the target.

Subliminalisation (S) is the embedding of intent into the subconscious.

Belief (B) is the conviction that it will work.

Each element multiplies the others, meaning that if even one component is missing or misaligned, the effect collapses. Carroll’s insight offered a glimpse into something that magicians had always sensed: that magick is not about will alone, but about the precise alignment of state, symbol, and structure.

This essay builds upon Carroll’s original Psi Equation, expanding it into a unified model of conscious access to the field of reality itself, what I have elsewhere called the Conscious Nonlocal Resonance Field (CNRF). In this view, the Psi Equation is not just a tool for magical efficacy. It becomes the interface logic between consciousness and the symbolic architecture of reality.

We are no longer speaking only of spells or rituals, we are now mapping:

Remote viewing

Precognition

Intuitive “downloads”

Synchronicity

Subconscious pattern shaping

And the entire feedback loop between mind and meaning:

The Psi Equation is not superstition. It is a formula for resonance.

In what follows, we’ll break down each component of the equation, not just in theory, but in practice. We’ll explore how altered states tune the self, how symbols link us across time and space, how the subconscious embeds intent, and why belief is not optional, it’s architectural.

This is the deeper logic of magick, psi, and consciousness itself.

Not a metaphor. A mechanism.

II. The Structure of the Equation: Why Multiplication Matters

At first glance, the Psi Equation may seem like a simple list of factors. But its multiplicative structure is the key to its power, and its precision.

Ψ = G x L x S x B

Each variable, Gnosis, Link, Subliminalisation, and Belief, is essential. If any one of them equals zero, the entire operation fails. The equation isn’t additive. You can’t compensate for lack of belief with stronger gnosis, or make up for a weak link with more ritual drama. Instead, each factor must be present and aligned, or the field remains quiet.

Why Multiplication?

Multiplication reflects nonlinear interaction. It captures how these elements don't simply stack, but amplify or collapse each other. Like tuning the strings of an instrument, the harmony is achieved only when each string resonates in key. One out of tune, and the whole chord falters.

This structure also mirrors the principles of resonance itself. For two systems to resonate, they must be:

Energetically compatible (gnosis)

Structurally linked (symbol or emotion)

Free from conscious resistance (subliminalisation)

Confidently engaged (belief)

Each variable in the Psi Equation represents one of these necessary layers of coherence.

Together, they form a gateway through which symbolic intent collapses possibility into experience.

The Equation as a Map, Not a Machine

This is not a formula in the traditional scientific sense, it does not predict numeric outcomes. It is a map of access, a guide to understanding why psi events happen, and more importantly, how we might consciously facilitate them.

It also gives us a way to debug failure. When an intention doesn’t manifest, when a ritual feels hollow, or when intuition misfires, this equation lets us ask:

Was I really in an altered state?

Was my symbolic link strong and meaningful?

Did I truly embed the intent in my subconscious, or just speak it?

Did I believe it would work? Or was I hoping with doubt beneath?

The Psi Equation doesn’t guarantee success. It guarantees structure.

And in the world of resonance, structure is everything.

III. Gnosis — Altered State as Gateway

Gnosis (G) is the foundation of access. It refers to a specific kind of altered state of consciousness, not just daydreaming or visualization, but a profound shift in how awareness is filtered, focused, and expressed.

This state is crucial because the ordinary waking mind, ruled by logic, ego, and verbal language, is not suited for resonance with the symbolic field. It is too linear, too filtered, too focused on separation. Gnosis, by contrast, suspends those filters. It dissolves boundaries between self and symbol, perception and imagination, time and identity.

In this state, the conscious mind steps aside, and the subconscious becomes permeable. Symbolic intelligence takes the lead.

Common Forms of Gnosis:

Trance — induced through breath, rhythm, music, repetition, or ritual.

Meditation — quieting the mind until symbolic imagery arises spontaneously.

Hypnagogia — the twilight between waking and sleep, where images emerge unfiltered.

Dream states — especially lucid dreams, where symbolic fluidity is heightened.

Sexual or ecstatic experience — intense emotional energy collapses mental boundaries.

Psychedelic/entheogenic states — chemically induced liminality.

Focused ritual or prayer — concentration so intense that time and self dissolve.

Why Gnosis Matters

Gnosis is not optional, it’s structural. Without an altered state, the mind remains trapped in linear logic. Resonance cannot occur because the field does not speak in facts, it speaks in symbol, emotion, and image.

In gnosis:

The subconscious becomes receptive.

The symbolic link becomes alive.

Time softens, and identity becomes fluid.

The boundary between inner and outer perception thins.

This is the ideal condition for entering resonance with the CNRF.

Gnosis isn’t escape from reality.

It’s access to a deeper layer of it.

Degrees of Gnosis and Field Contact

The intensity and clarity of the altered state directly affect Psi:

Shallow gnosis (mild meditation, light trance) may produce intuitive nudges.

Moderate gnosis (deep meditation, ritual trance) enables vision, synchronicity, or symbolic impressions.

Deep gnosis (dream, entheogenic, ecstatic states) may unlock remote viewing, precognition, or full symbolic immersion.

Gnosis is the gateway to resonance.

Without it, the link won’t land, the belief can’t root, and the subconscious can’t receive.

So the first question of any psi or magickal act must be:

Have I changed state, or am I just thinking?

IV. Link — The Symbolic Thread of Connection

If Gnosis is the altered state that opens the gateway, the Link (L) is the thread that tells the mind where to go.

The Link is a symbolic or emotional anchor that connects the practitioner to a target, whether it’s a person, place, moment in time, or concept. In the CNRF model, information is not “sent” or “received” across space. It is accessed through resonance. The Link is what defines the target’s signature in the field.

You’re not calling the target to you.

You’re tuning yourself to it.

What Can Be a Link?

Almost anything can function as a Link, if it carries symbolic precision and emotional charge:

A photograph of a person or place A name (especially spoken with intent).

A location coordinate (as in remote viewing).

A ritual object, token, or talisman.

A written statement of intent.

A sigil or symbol designed to represent the target.

A strong emotion tied to a memory or goal Even a random number (if accepted by the subconscious as meaningful).

What matters most is not the material, but the meaning assigned to it. The subconscious accepts the Link as real when it feels symbolically coherent. When it does, resonance activates.

The Function of the Link

It focuses intent through symbolic specificity.

It anchors the target in the subconscious.

It creates emotional entanglement, which strengthens signal It acts as a resonance tether in the CNRF.

The Link is not the message.

It’s the address.

A clear, emotionally charged Link makes the target accessible, regardless of physical distance or time.

Why Some Links Fail

Too abstract — no emotional or symbolic precision.

Too literal — fails to engage the symbolic layer of the subconscious.

Too rational — not accepted as “real” by the subconscious.

Unclear intent — weak targeting creates scattered results.

To strengthen the Link:

Choose symbols that feel potent, not just logical Personalize the connection.

Charge it with emotion, story, or ritual framing Let the subconscious believe it matters.

The more emotionally entangled you are with the target, the clearer the resonance.

The Link is not about reaching out. It’s about remembering how you’re already connected.

V. Subliminalisation — Embedding the Signal Beneath Awareness

If Gnosis opens the gateway and Link defines the target, then Subliminalisation (S) is what sends the signal below the surface, into the symbolic machinery that actually touches the field.

The conscious mind is not the engine of resonance. The subconscious is.

And the subconscious does not respond to logic, analysis, or direct instruction. It responds to symbol, emotion, pattern, and repetition.

Subliminalisation is the act of planting intention deep enough that it bypasses the ego's resistance and becomes part of the inner architecture, running silently, continuously, and symbolically.

Why Subliminalisation Matters

In the CNRF model, the field responds to symbolic coherence. If your conscious intention is clear, but your subconscious is cluttered, uncertain, or in conflict, the signal will be distorted or blocked.

Subliminalisation ensures that the whole self is engaged, not just the thinking mind, but the symbolic body, emotional pattern, and energetic field.

Without subliminalisation, intent remains surface-level. It may never reach the depth required for resonance.

Methods of Subliminalisation

These vary across traditions, but all share a common goal: embedding intent into the subconscious without ego interference. Some effective methods include:

Sigil crafting and activation:

Compressing desire into symbol, then charging it through gnosis.

Ritual and repetition:

Repeating phrases, gestures, or acts with emotional focus.

Dream incubation:

Setting symbolic intention before sleep to invite subconscious engagement

Visualization:

Vivid, emotionally rich mental imagery that feels “real”.

Mantra and affirmation:

Repeating charged phrases during altered states.

Art, dance, or movement:

Expressing intent through non-verbal, embodied channels.

The key is to make the intent resonate beneath awareness, where it can interface with the symbolic field unfiltered.

The conscious mind says, “I want.”

The subconscious says, “It is.”

And only the latter speaks the language of the CNRF.

Signs of Successful Subliminalisation

You stop obsessing about the outcome, it feels already in motion.

Synchronicities begin to cluster around the theme.

Emotional “clicks” or symbolic dreams begin surfacing.

The act feels complete, not needing mental rehearsal.

Subliminalisation doesn’t “send” the signal. It becomes the signal.

You don’t force your will into the field. You install it in yourself, and the field responds accordingly.

VI. Belief — The Amplifier of Reality

If Gnosis opens the door, Link sets the destination, and Subliminalisation plants the seed, then Belief (B) is the light that makes it grow.

Belief is the amplifier of the entire system. It’s not a bonus, it’s a force multiplier.

In the Psi Equation: Ψ = G x L x S x B

...if Belief equals zero, the entire operation collapses. No amount of trance, symbolic precision, or subconscious seeding will work if you do not believe it can.

But this isn’t about “positive thinking.” It’s about identity coherence.

Belief as Ontological Gravity

In the CNRF model, belief functions like gravitational mass: it pulls the symbolic resonance of your self toward a particular pattern in the field.

What you truly believe creates a gravitational well in reality.

The field begins to bend around it.

Experience aligns, not instantly, but inevitably, with structure.

Belief collapses possibility into pattern. It turns “maybe” into “here it comes.”

Not Hope. Belief.

People often confuse belief with hope. But hope is passive. Hope wishes.

Belief is structural. It is not about wishing. It’s about becoming the version of yourself for whom the desired outcome is already true.

You don’t believe it will happen.

You believe you are the one it happens to.

That shift, from outcome-focused hope to identity-rooted knowing, is what flips the switch in the field.

Why Belief Is Often the Weakest Link

Conditioning: We’ve been trained to defer to materialism, to doubt inner knowing.

Cultural scripts: “That’s not realistic.” “You’re being delusional.”

Fear of disappointment: If we believe too hard and it fails, the pain is deeper.

Split identity: A part of us believes, another part sabotages.

But belief is not about perfection. It’s about alignment. When the symbolic self says “yes,” even if logic hesitates, resonance occurs.

Ways to Strengthen Belief

Act as if — Live in alignment with the version of you for whom it’s already true.

Surround with symbols — Physical reminders help reinforce identity.

Rehearse success — Not just mentally, but emotionally.

Release neediness — Needing something too much implies doubt in its arrival.

Engage in ritual — Ritual bypasses logic and creates symbolic authority.

Use repetition and reinforcement — Let belief root through time.

The more belief becomes embodied, the more the subconscious accepts it as “how things are.” And the field, like a mirror, reflects that architecture.

Belief isn’t just a variable in the equation.

It’s the equation’s voltage.

With all four elements, Gnosis, Link, Subliminalisation, and Belief, aligned, the Psi Equation activates.

Resonance becomes possible.

The field responds.

VII. Summary: The Equation of Resonance

Ψ = G x L x S x B

This is not just a theory of magick, it is the mechanism of conscious access to the field.

Each variable is essential:

Gnosis (G): Alters perception and opens the subconscious to resonance.

Link (L): Symbolically connects intention to the target.

Subliminalisation (S): Plants the signal into the deeper self, below ego interference.

Belief (B): Amplifies the whole system by making it real in identity and expectation.

Each acts like a circuit in a device. Remove one, and the device doesn’t power on. Increase one, and the output amplifies.

This model helps explain why psi phenomena are real but inconsistent:

Most people access them unintentionally, through dream states, emotional intensity, or spiritual surrender, but without full awareness of the structural components.

The Psi Equation brings intentionality to that process.

It moves us from accidental glimpses into resonance and deliberate access.

VIII. Applications: Real-World Scenarios of the Psi Equation

Here are a few brief examples showing how the Psi Equation functions in practice:

1. Remote Viewing (Operational Psi)

Setup: A remote viewer is given random coordinates and tasked with describing a hidden target location.

Gnosis: The viewer enters a deep, focused trance or liminal state.

Link: The random coordinates act as a symbolic address (accepted by the subconscious as meaningful).

Subliminalisation: The viewer is trained to let images and impressions arise without judgment.

Belief: Experienced viewers trust the process, which increases signal clarity.

Result: Viewers often describe accurate details of the target location, sometimes with astonishing precision.

Why it works: All four variables are ritualized and structurally embedded in the process.

2. Sigil Magick (Symbolic Manifestation)

Setup: A practitioner creates a sigil to manifest a personal goal.

Gnosis: The sigil is activated during trance, orgasm, or altered state.

Link: The sigil itself is a compressed symbolic representation of the desire.

Subliminalisation: Once activated, the sigil is “forgotten,” allowing the subconscious to run the code.

Belief: The practitioner believes the method is effective (and often has past results as proof).

Result: Desired outcome manifests over time, often through synchronicity.

Why it works: The symbolic and emotional systems are brought into alignment below the level of conscious doubt.

3. Precognitive Dream (Unintentional Psi)

Setup: A person dreams of an event that has not yet occurred. Later, the event unfolds almost exactly as imagined.

Gnosis: Dream state provides deep gnosis and bypasses linear cognition.

Link: The dream symbolically connects to an emotionally charged future moment.

Subliminalisation: The mind was not trying to control the message, this opens the signal.

Belief: The subconscious “knows” it's possible; the conscious mind may not believe it until later.

Result: A moment of real-world convergence with dream detail.

Why it works: Accidental full Psi equation, without ego interference.

4. Healing Prayer or Focused Intention

Setup: A group focuses intention on healing a distant individual.

Gnosis: Group enters a meditative or ritual state.

Link: Focused visualization or the name/photo of the recipient.

Subliminalisation: Emotions are heightened, the desire is felt deeply and collectively.

Belief: Faith traditions or group belief reinforces conviction.

Result: Anecdotal reports of pain relief, accelerated recovery, or sudden insight in the recipient.

Why it works: High emotional coherence + shared belief + symbolic resonance = strong field interaction

Closing Thought

It is the operational blueprint for how the self, the subconscious, and the symbolic field of reality interface.

It does not guarantee success, but it explains the conditions under which success becomes likely.

When you align state, symbol, signal, and self, reality begins to echo back.

IX. Conclusion: Tuning the Self to Shape Reality

The Psi Equation is more than a model for psychic experience, it is a mirror held up to consciousness itself. It reveals that resonance, not force, is the true engine of change. That the self is not a passive observer of a fixed world, but a symbolic interface capable of shaping experience through alignment, intention, and belief.

What was once called magick, what some call intuition, and what science terms anomaly, in this light, is a structured interaction with the field of meaning.

This model doesn’t just invite deeper understanding. It demands greater responsibility. Because once you realize that your state of mind, your symbols, your emotional coherence, and your core beliefs shape what you access and what becomes real.

You can no longer pretend that reality is happening to you.

You begin to see:

It is happening through you.

In every moment.

At the speed of resonance.

So the question is not whether Psi is real.

The question is:

How deliberately are you tuning your instrument?

And what kind of world is it echoing back?
